The Ballet of the Orca: A Private Whale Safari on the Arctic Queen

Boarding the Arctic Queen from Tromsø at 8 a.m., our private whale safari started with much anticipation. We journey through the breathtaking landscapes of Lyngen to Skjervøy. As we navigated through the enchanting Lyngen Alps, sipping on steaming cups of coffee and nibbling on snacks, little did we know the kind of show that was about to unfold before our eyes.

The anticipation heightened as we approached our destination, and the sea came alive with a vibrant mosaic of boats, kayaks, and even intrepid divers. Cameras clicked incessantly, capturing the excitement that hung in the crisp Arctic air. We had to turn 180 degrees every few seconds to not miss a single moment of the spectacle unfolding around us.

The ocean's surface rippled with life – pods of orcas emerged, some so close to our yacht that we could feel the gentle spray from their spouts. It was an intimate encounter with these majestic creatures that surpassed all expectations.

The orcas showcased their incredible speed as they deftly chased after fish, creating a thrilling spectacle that had us glued to the edge of our seats. The excitement reached new heights when the orcas started spy hopping, a ballet that seemed like a performance curated just for us and our fellow spectators.

Just when we thought the show couldn't get any better, the deep resonance of a spout resonated not far from our yacht: The grand entrance of a humpback whale, gliding effortlessly through the water with its massive body. It greeted us with its majestic tail fin several times and we could do nothing but gasp and stare with wide open eyes.

Our guests were treated to a front-row seat to nature's grand spectacle, and we were lucky enough to share it with them. It was a perfect day of whale watching, forming connections and sharing precious moments that will last us a lifetime. We witnessed the sun dip below the horizon, casting a warm glow on the Arctic landscape, silhouettes of seagulls filled the sky and whales were all around us. We couldn't have asked for a better show.
