Seiland National park

In 2006, large parts of Seiland national conservation. The objective was to preserve a larger contiguous natural area with wilderness and which is little affected by human intervention. Seiland is one of the most pristine natural areas left in Finnmark and is with its 583 km2 Finnmark‘s second largest island after Sørøya, and the seventh largest in Norway. The island is divided between the three municipalities, Hammerfest Kvalsund and Alta. Seiland is very mountainous with many peaks over 800m. The highest point is Seilandstuva at 1079 m. The island has two larger sprawl areas, Nordmannsjøkelen and Seilandsjøkelen. Seilandsjøkelen is the northernmost glacier and represent Scandinavia lowest icelimit (limit for the formation of glacier) Seiland is more or less divided  by two deep fjords. From the north need Jøfjorden 11 km into the island, and just 5 km separates the fjords from a 9 km long St. Kufjorden south. Once you are inside the maelstrom in Jøfjordbotn you feel the atmosphere to the fjords of Western Norway. Jørjorden is surrounded by towering peaks at 800 – 1000 m. And with Nordmannsjøkelen enthroned on top.

Seiland has rich flora and avifauna with eg instances of the rare Stjernøyvalmuen and gyrfalcon. Minerals include zircon, called Seiland diamonds. It is found here as large crystals. Seiland offers a great variety of Habitats, from lush valleys fjord to peak and glacier.
